Greetings, my friends!
Here is a reflection over an assigned reading (I know you're soooo excited to read it):
Sontag captures
the beauty in photography throughout the reading. She talks about photography’s
importance throughout history as well as its importance in today’s world.
Sontag states that photography is an object, something that you can hold and
keep. It is one of the most mysterious of objects. Photographs carry the past,
and the truth. Photographs are evidence of real life experiences. They have an
innocent, yet accurate, outlook on reality. If there is a photograph, a
situation becomes believable. Photographs capture experiences, and that is
quite valuable. Photographers experience a sense of power because they hold the
opportunity, literally in their hands, to capture memorable events. Photographs
are quite fragile because they can be easily torn or worn away after so many
years. Due to this, many times people will but photographs in book. This is, in
a sense, a picture of a picture. This is done because people realize the value
in photographs, and putting pictures in a book is a safe way to keep the original
photograph in good condition.
What I plan on
taking away from this reading is the realization that photography is power.
Photography is a beautiful thing has been very important throughout history for
several different reasons. What stood out most to me from this reading was the
idea that photography captures experiences. As the photographer, I will have
all the power in my hands to capture human experiences throughout the course of
this project. Photographs are special, sacred things. They’re fragile and hold
memories. As I continue working on this project and taking photographs, I will
keep this reading in mind as an inspiration.
